About us
History of Yeshivah - Beth Rivkah Colleges
Our history begins in 1949 when Yeshivah Centre opened a Jewish Day School with only three students.
In response to a significant post-war migration of Jews to Melbourne, a group of newly arrived migrants established the Yeshivah Centre. Dedicated to providing a wide array of educational, social, welfare, and cultural services to the Jewish community, the Centre opened its doors in 1949 under the auspices of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, initially accommodating three full-time students.
The success of the school led to further expansion. In 1954, Yeshivah College was purchased at 92 Hotham Street. This was followed by acquisitions of properties for Beth Rivkah Ladies College at 14 Balaclava Road in 1959 and 16-20 Balaclava Road in 1969. In 1958, Rabbi Y.D. Groner, of blessed memory, arrived in Melbourne as an emissary of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, assuming the role of full-time Director of the Yeshivah Centre.
Today, Yeshivah- Beth Rivkah Colleges proudly serve over 1200 students from Crèche to Year 12. Committed to the personal growth and individual achievement of each student, our school is renowned for its excellence in Jewish and General studies. We foster an inclusive and nurturing learning environment, and are grateful to be part of an incredibly welcoming and inviting Jewish community.
